And then it was 20. Two more restaurants were added to the line of fresh new eateries in Seaport Village, San Diego, marking the 19th and 20th leases on the bay’s landmark, which is undergoing major revitalization.
The Board of Port Commissioners approved leases for Gladstone’s and Shorebird this week. Construction work on these two locations is slated to begin next summer, and both are slated to open in autumn 2022.
Gladstone’s at Seaport Village: What You Should Know
The Port said Gladstone’s is a historic beachfront restaurant with deep SoCal roots: it was founded in Malibu, California in 1972. In 2004, another location was opened in Long Beach, California. At Gladstone’s new location in San Diego, the menu focuses on fresh concepts that include seafood dishes (think fish, king crab, lobster).
Gladstone’s at Seaport Village will be a 9,684 square foot restaurant with a wraparound outdoor deck. The port said it will be located along the boardwalk in an area within the landmark known as the Carousel District. It replaces the Edgewater Grill.
Shorebird at Seaport Village: What You Should Know
Shorebird also has a connection to Southern California: The brand has one location in Newport Beach and another in Sedona, Arizona. The Seaport Village location will be the third place for this brand – and as you know, good things come in three, right?
According to the Port of San Diego, the Shorebird’s menu features “sophisticated culinary techniques” as well as “casual plating styles” with homemade dishes.
Shorebird’s location in the Seaport Village will span two stories, covering approximately 2,272 square feet – and it will overlook the waters of San Diego Bay, the port said. This will replace the longstanding Pier Café.
Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners Chairman Michael Zucchet said the two latest restaurants to add to the list continue to improve the food game at the San Diego landmark.
Last month the port announced another expansion of the Seaport Village: Crack Taco Shop, a locally based restaurant that offers authentic Mexican tacos and burritos – and a little specialty called “Cardiff Crack”.
Cardiff Crack is a burgundy-pepper tri-tip steak that the brand claims to have been using in its tacos and burritos since 1985.
In the course of the revitalization of the landmark on the water, the list of the Seaport Village was expanded to include another restaurant. The latest addition is the Crack Taco Shop, a restaurant that specializes in tacos and burritos made with so-called “Cardiff Crack” tri-tip steaks.
The Crack Taco Shop will be located in the Seaport Village Lighthouse District near Spill the Beans on West Harbor Drive. The eatery will dine al fresco along the promenade. Gladstone’s and Shorebird are the 19th and 20th new renters to join Seaport Village since Port of San Diego began revitalizing the waterfront landmark.
A few months ago, the port announced that Zytoun Gourmet Mediterranean and Old Harbor Distilling Company are the newest locally owned businesses located in the shopping, dining and entertainment hub along the Embarcadero in San Diego. These two spots are also scheduled to open in spring / summer 2022.
Of course, Crack Taco Shop isn’t the only new landmark taco spot since this is San Diego and all.
Earlier this year, Mike Hess Brewing teamed up with a Mexican restaurant called Quiero Tacos to bring craft beer and tacos – two things San Diegans care about – to Seaport Village. More about it here.
The Port of San Diego acquired the ownership and operations of Seaport Village in 2018. In a press release, the port said the Port Board has approved capital expenditures of approximately $ 7.8 million to date to transform Seaport Village “into a vibrant waterfront shopping, dining and entertainment facility.” Center.”
Approximately $ 2.5 million has already been spent on “upgrading and upgrading” the landmark, including repainting the exterior of buildings, new signs, landscaping, and adding amenities such as seating in the Urban Beach area by the bay. Port said an additional $ 1.2 million was invested to help new tenants renovate their spaces prior to opening.
The port pledges for tenants to upgrade an additional $ 4.1 million, including restaurant concepts that have not yet opened.

- Spill the Beans (coffee specialties and bagels)
- Influencer Boutique (women’s clothing and accessories)
- Chris Harvey Studio (pop-up art gallery and studio with workshops, courses, lectures and performances)
- Louisiana Charlie’s (Southern-style restaurant with grill and Cajun dishes, expected to open in Fall 2021)
- Malibu Farm (California-inspired farm-to-table restaurant, expected to open in summer 2022)
- Zytoun Gourmet Mediterranean (Greek-Mediterranean restaurant, expected to open in summer 2022)
- Old Harbor Distilling Company (craft beer tasting room combined with a fast-casual seafood restaurant, expected to open in summer 2022)
- Crack Taco Shop (expected to open in summer 2022)
- Geppetto’s (a locally owned and operated toy store)
The XEWT Channel 12 studio also recently debuted at Seaport Village, a studio operated by Televisa.

Seaport Village: History & Future
Seaport Village is located on 849 West Harbor Dr., adjacent to downtown San Diego and the USS Midway Museum and south of the San Diego International Airport. The shopping and restaurant complex debuted in 1980; it is owned by the Port of San Diego and operated in partnership with Protea Property Management.
An arena, aquarium, fish market, and event venue are just a few of the options for the waterfront property. NBC 7’s Bridget Naso heard some response from citizens to the proposals.
Seaport Village was expanded as part of the port’s ongoing Central Embarcadero project, which includes 70 acres of land and water between downtown San Diego and the San Diego Bayfront.
