The local San Diego music scene is slowly returning after the pandemic shutdowns. Now, a nonprofit music school, Gallery 130, is helping new San Diego artists get into the business.

“This is an environment where we encourage artists early in their careers until they have millions of views on their Spotify and Soundcloud accounts,” said Jesse Brennan, a member of the Gallery 130 board of directors.

The creative space opened in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic when the entertainment industry suffered a major blow.

“You’ve helped me get an EP out so far. It was self written and they helped me get it to a place where I could post it as I was working with amateur producers at the time, ”said Emma Levant, singer and member of Gallery 130.

Levant hopes the professional producers and engineers will help her take her music career to the next level.

“I feel like I’m finally on my way. I’m not sure where it’s going, but I feel like I’m finally on my way to a really great place, ”said Levant.

The handy production aid is a fraction of the cost compared to other professional music studios.

“We help them produce, master, write, develop their brand, teach them how to distribute music and get paid for it. The business side of things that artists, no matter how talented, may not know, ”said Frankie Silver, singer and mentor at Gallery 130.

The music and events industry is an important part of San Diego, employing thousands of people. The creative space in gallery 130 shows that live music has a bright future.

According to the San Diego Event Coalition, more than 200,000 people in San Diego were economically affected last year when concerts and festivals were canceled.

“The entertainment industry has taken a huge blow, luckily it is coming back with a vengeance,” Brennan said

Gallery 130 is holding a fundraising concert on Saturday, November 30th, at the Quartyard Downtown from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Frankie Silver and other members of Gallery 130 will appear on the show.
