Discovery + announced an upcoming documentary on November 19 about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s divorce in 2017, which is still going to be heard in the Court of Public Opinion.
“Johnny vs. Amber” leads viewers into the dissolution of the short-lived relationship that lasted from 2015 to 2017. The story began when Heard filed for divorce from Depp in 2016. The situation escalated from Heard, who obtained an injunction against Depp, over leaked evidence of alleged domestic violence, and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor even sued The Sun for portraying him as a “beating of a woman.”
Discovery said in a statement that “Johnny vs Amber” will evaluate what started the end of the marriage and “how it led to the celebrity trial of the decade”.
The Doc will delve into the deeply troubled marriage from every broken side. As stated in a press release from the streamer, the project, which is divided into two films, tells the story from two perspectives.
Johnny Depps many women over the years
“Johnny’s film will show that he was married to a Machiavellian liar who would stop at nothing to protect their image,” the statement said. “While Amber’s film explores how she married the man of her dreams only to see him transform into a violent drug-addicted monster.”
“Through audiotapes, home videos and text messages shown in court, these films give viewers a rare and vital glimpse into a marriage that tragically failed and a better understanding of the hugely important issue of domestic violence,” said Nick Hornby, Co-CEO from Optomen, the company that produced the documentary.
The episodes allow the audience to hear from the lawyers involved on both sides, along with testimonies from those close to the couple. Extensive film and sound recordings filmed by the couple themselves are also examined; but the declaration does not state that they are directly involved in the project.
In the release, Clare Laycock, Head of Entertainment at Discovery UK, stated that the series premiere “will provide an in-depth look into the epic battle that fueled the #JusticeforJohnnyDepp and #IStandWithYouAmberHeard fan campaigns and the very public case in the High Court Has”. That got us all. Optomen did a fantastic job transforming this complex story into something both compelling and terrifying. “
“Johnny vs Amber” will be airing on Discovery + later this year.
