A life science real estate developer announced today that BD (NYSE: BDX) has selected its property as a new location for its life sciences business.
Through a joint venture with Tishman Speyer and Bellco Capital, Breakthrough Properties confirmed that BD has selected its Torrey View by Breakthrough property for an expanded San Diego reagent innovation center in its life sciences segment.
“We are excited to welcome BD Biosciences to Torrey View and the wider Breakthrough family,” said Susie Harborth, Breakthrough Properties EVP for Operations, in a press release. “BD is exactly the kind of dynamic, fast-growing company we envisioned when we set out to create this life science campus. We feel honored and proud to support a company that plays such a vital role in the advancement of the health world. “
Torrey View, a 10-acre Life Sciences R&D campus, has three R&D buildings and a tenants’ clubhouse, with BD leasing the largest planned building on the campus. BD Biosciences will occupy more than 40% of Torrey View’s total available space for a total of 220,000 square feet, Breakthrough said.
According to BD VP & Biosciences Research Solutions GM Steve Conly, there are more than 4,000 BD employees in the San Diego area. The company, he said, remains committed to hiring and developing members of the San Diego community.
“Our new facility in San Diego will help enhance our research, development and operations capabilities and position BD for exciting growth,” said Puneet Sarin, president of BD Biosciences Worldwide. “BD Biosciences is a cornerstone of BD’s mission to advance the world of health and provide researchers with innovative tools that advance deeper understanding of the immune system and unleash its unique power to fight disease.
“We are delighted to have selected the Torrey View by Breakthrough campus as the location for this dynamic work now and in the future. The campus will provide a flexible work environment, support collaboration and innovation, and serve our desire to attract and retain the best talent for years to come. “
