College football fans have found new love in the booming San Diego State punter Matt Araiza, aka “Punt God”.
In college football, it’s usually quarterbacks and wide receivers or running backs and pass rushers that stimulate the imagination.
Who could have guessed that the sport’s greatest celebrity could be a gamer?
Matt Araiza from the US state of San Diego has built a loyal following with his ridiculously strong leg. He’s hit 60 yard punts more than anyone else this year. It’s booming for several 80-yarders.
In the words of Rick Neuheisel, “Punting wins” when it comes to seeing Araiza. He’s the # 1 reason to tune into San Deigo state football this season.

Araiza doesn’t just get attention from the Twitter crowd. He is also a finalist for the Ray Guy Award.
Araiza averages the nation’s best 51.82 yards per punt, which is the highest average since 2000. Texas A & M’s Braden Mann is the only other player to average better than 50 yards per punt in a season, and he attempted 17 fewer punts than Ariaza made before the Boise State game.
Matt Araiza NFL Draft: How High is the Punt God Drafted?
Araiza is a unique design brochure. Its location is not much valued, but it is arguably Punter’s best vantage point in decades.
So how early could he be drafted?
Utah’s 49ers drafter Mitch Wishnowsky in the fourth round in 2019. The Jaguars brought out Bryan Anger in the third round in 2012. Others have risen to the third round in the past few decades.
The tallest player ever selected was Rohn Stark of Florida State in the second round of Baltimore in 1982 with the 34th overall pick. Todd Sauerbrun of West Virginia was also a selection in the second round, going to the Chicago Bears with the 54th pick.
Ariaza will definitely be drafted. The only question is how high but getting off the board on day 2 is a definite possibility.
