A Los Angeles man charged with rapper Mac Miller’s overdose death in 2018 has pledged to plead guilty to a deal that, according to court documents, could put him in jail for 17 years.
Stephen Andrew Walter was one of three men charged in 2019 on the death of Miller, who died of a fentanyl overdose the previous year.
He agreed to plead guilty in a settlement agreement with prosecutors filed this week that fentanyl was distributed in one case. According to the document, both sides agreed on a 17-year prison term. A judge has to accept the deal. A change in the way the lawsuit will be brought is planned for November 8th.
Miller, whose real name was Malcolm McCormick, died at the age of 26 after becoming unresponsive at his Studio City home on September 7, 2018. His death was classified as an accidental overdose of cocaine, alcohol, and fentanyl.
Walter’s attorney, William S. Harris, did not immediately return a request for comment on Wednesday evening, instead telling Rolling Stone that “it is a binding agreement for 17 years”.
