“Dune” is not ready.
Legendary Entertainment announced on Tuesday that Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune”, which adapted the first half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction epic, would get a sequel. Whether that would be the case was an unanswered question throughout the film’s release, which was delayed year by the pandemic, and eventually debuted in both theaters and HBO Max.
Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros., said the studio will release “Dune: Part II” in October 2023. This time, the release will only take place in the cinemas. Villeneuve argued that “Dune” was big screen and protested passionately when Warner Bros. switched to hybrid releases for all of its 2021 films due to the pandemic.
But Villeneuve had worked hard for a sequel to “Dune” which he thinks is the best movie he has made. It plays Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa and Zendaya. Some actors, like Zendaya, would possibly play a bigger role in part two.
“This is just the beginning,” Villeneuve said in a statement.
On the weekend, “Dune” kicked off with a solid $ 40.1 million in ticket sales in cinemas in the US and Canada.
“Dune,” a 155-minute, $ 165 million film introducing itself as “Part 1,” has grossed $ 225 million worldwide.
