The Escape Craft Brewery, which won four medals in the San Diego International Beer Competition, was also named Best of Show.

The competition determines the best of the best after the full list of winners has been announced. The brewery shared the news of winning the Best of Show on November 12 via Instagram.

The award was given for the brewery’s Irish Crossfit, which also received a gold medal in the Irish Red Ale category.

The Redlands Brewery also won a silver medal in the Coffee Beer category for the Scenic Route, a bronze medal in the Wood and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout category for Dark Matter, and a bronze medal in the American-Style Juicy or Hazy India Pale Ale category for Mark Watney, Space pirate!

It is one of several Inland Empire breweries to have won awards in the competition.

Escape Craft Brewery’s original Barrelhouse location is at 721 Nevada St., Suite 401, and the recently opened Downtown Oasis is at 440 Oriental Ave.

The brewery also operates a location in Laguna Niguel.

Publication of a charity beer collaboration

The Inland Empire Brew Witches partner with Rowdy’s Brew Co. to produce Brave Noise Hazy Pale Ale. Beer sales will promote diversity and inclusion in craft brewing.

The Brave Noise Beer project grew out of an Instagram post earlier this year by Brienne Allan, then a brewer at Notch Brewing, asking followers to share their stories about sexism in the craft brewing world, according to a press release from Brew Witches.

The post exposed high profile allegations of sexism, harassment, assault and other cases of wrongdoing within the industry.

Allan started the project that encourages breweries to develop and publish codes of conduct, brew the Brave Noise recipe and donate a portion of the proceeds to an appropriate charity as a show of solidarity with women and other minorities in the industry.

The Inland Empire Brew Witches is a nonprofit that supports women through educational events, social outings, and community service.

Rowdy’s is the only Inland Empire brewery participating in the project, according to the Brave Noise website.

The release party will take place on Saturday, November 20th, from 3pm to 6pm at Rowdy’s, 10002 Sixth St., Suite A, Rancho Cucamonga.

The sale of Brave Noise Hazy Pale Ale and related merchandise will benefit the Bevolution Brave Voices Fund.

Sorry, we’re closed

The long-standing Chinese highland restaurant Jade Inn – in the Highland Village Plaza, 7259 Boulder Ave., Suite 3347 – has closed.

In its place comes Kung Fu Phở, which moves a few doors further.

The Jade Inn appears to have recently closed with online reviews starting mid-October.

Where Kung Fu Phở used to be – 7259 Boulder Ave., Suite A9 – is now Kung Fu Boba.

Thanks to reader Karen for emailing us to ask about the closure.
