Craft beer and tacos. Ballpark eats. Wood-fired pizza. Breakfast. Cocktails. Eater San Diego shares the week’s top stories from our food and drink scene, including details about a new waterfront spot at a local landmark that focuses on two things San Diegans love: beer and tacos.

Craft Beer & Tacos: New project from Mike Hess Brewing Lands in the Seaport Village
A full-service restaurant officially lands at the Waterfront Complex this weekend, highlighting two things that are San Diegan’s heart: craft brews and tacos. The Seaport Village project includes a 24-tap tasting room from North Park’s Mike Hess Brewing Company, paired with a new Mexican restaurant called Quiero Tacos. The taco spot offers a variety of tacos, from traditional carne asada and a “fried avocado” version to a Baja-style fish taco that uses Mike Hess beer in its batter.

Petco Park is relocating its food service at the start of baseball season
The Padres are expected to be open on 1. As the season begins, a limited number of grocery vendors will be open, including Buona Forchetta and Hodad’s, but the team expects more to be activated when restrictions are relaxed. All orders are now placed using a mobile app, with pick-up points in designated areas around the ballpark.

Wood-fired outdoor kitchen for the Barrio Logan restaurant
Café Califas is coming to Barrio Logan later this spring with a seasonal menu of small dishes cooked in an outdoor kitchen with a wood-burning oven, grill, and smoker. Chef / owner Mario Maruca previously operated a wood-fired pizza cart, so expect pizzas to play a prominent role. Most of the seating at Logan Avenue Restaurant will also be outside, on the large front patio of the 4,500 square foot property.

Feigenbaum Café and Eggies expand into Mission Valley
The owner of Breakfast Republic is bringing two of its other breakfast brands to Mission Valley, where Fig Tree Café, with locations in Pacific Beach and Liberty Station, will land early next year. The daytime restaurant / bar is currently slated to open in early 2022 with an outpost of Eggies, a take-away breakfast sandwich spot.
