Pete Buttigieg’s young son, Gus, has been discharged from the hospital and is “great”.
The Transport Minister’s husband, Chasten Buttigieg, shared the happy update on Twitter Friday, writing, “After 3 weeks in and out of hospitals, 200 miles in an ambulance and a terrible week on a ventilator, Gus is home smiling and doing great!”
“We are so relieved, grateful and excited that he and Penelope are taking DC by storm! Thank you for all the love and prayers, ”he continued.
Chasten Buttigieg also said a “special thank you” to all the medical professionals who helped Gus on his way to recovery. He also thanked the numerous people who shared stories about their own children being in intensive care.

The couple, who announced they would be parents in August, share two young children: Gus, whose full name is Joseph August, and a daughter, Penelope Rose.
In an Instagram post last week, Chasten Buttgieg revealed that he and his 39-year-old husband Pete, the first openly gay member of a Senate-approved Presidential Cabinet, spent Halloween in the hospital after Baby Gus fell ill with an unspecified condition.
“Happy Halloween from these # twinfrastructure safety advocates!” The new dad titled a pair of photos of Gus and Penelope in matching traffic cone costumes.
“As you can see, we are going to be in the hospital this Halloween,” he wrote. “It was difficult for Gus, but we are on the right track.
“We are so grateful for all the love and support our family has shown over the past few months. And also for the dedicated and friendly medical professionals who took care of our two little pumpkins while they became stronger, healthier and sweeter. “
