San Diegans Split on Urgency of COVID-19 Booster Shots Ahead of Holiday Travel – NBC 7 San Diego

According to the TSA, an average of more than 2 million people pass through security at airports in the United States every day for the past 3 days.

Some San Diegans that NBC 7 spoke to said they received a COVID-19 booster vaccine as soon as it was available, while others weren’t ready to receive one as none felt any urgency about the holiday season.

“We got it right when it was available to us,” San Diegan told Peter Jones.

“My husband and I think we are not in a high risk category and we are not against it. It just feels like this is not the time for us,” said Audry Oxley.

Public health officials are not concerned with the travel itself, but rather with the activities while enjoying the upcoming vacation.

NBC 7’s Jackie Crea spoke to a local doctor about how to keep your family safe this holiday season amid COVID-19.

“I think air travel seems pretty safe for the most part. I will worry more if you achieve your goal. What happens in these smaller rooms where people come together to celebrate and have dinner, ”said Dr. James Hildreth, FDA COVID advisor.

The heads of state and government urge people to get a booster vaccination as soon as possible.

As of November 17, approximately 340,000 people had received a booster vaccination, according to San Diego County.

“The data is also clear when you get a third shot for those who got the primaries, which consists of two shots for those who got the JJ vaccine. A single vaccination with this additional vaccination sometimes increases antibody levels 10-fold, including neutralizing antibodies. So it seems that a booster shot helps maintain immunity, ”said Hildreth.

For those who have not been vaccinated, executives urge them to follow safety precautions.

“I just want people who are not vaccinated to be extra vigilant because the virus is still out there and there are still people who get sick and die from it,” Hildreth said.
