Restaurant workers will be vaccinated as San Diego gets closer to the Red Level
San Diego County is about to get on the red row, which would allow restaurants of 25 percent or 100 people to reopen to indoor dining, whichever is less. Ben Clevenger, a local restaurant owner and president of the San Diego Chapter of the California Restaurant Association, joins Scene in San Diego’s podcast to discuss restaurant workers’ new vaccination eligibility and what Red Tier status means for the restaurant industry would. Popular ramen shop sets open in Hillcrest
Menya Ultra Ramen, one of San Diego’s preeminent ramen specialists, will open its third location in Hillcrest on March 12th. The new restaurant on University Avenue is debuting with take-away and delivery of its DIY ramen kits, as well as new exclusive items for this outpost, including Japanese-style fried chicken and Shio tonkotsu ramen.

LA Street Food Sensation expands to San Diego
Mr. Fries Man started out as a street food seller in South Los Angeles before his huge Instagram followers helped the eatery open its first storefront. Now the eatery is moving to Pacific Beach, where it is slated to open in the spring. Mr. Fries Man specializes in loaded fries and offers a customizable menu with toppings like steak, crab, chilli, and mango-habanero sauce.

The renowned chef of the Valle de Guadalupe opens the Oceanside Restaurant
Chef Roberto Alcocer of the renowned Malva restaurant in Valle de Guadalupe brings his farm-to-table Baja cuisine to the new Mission Pacific Hotel on the Oceanside coast. In May or June, the signature restaurant will showcase local products, seafood and more alongside wine and beer from the Baja region.

Butcher and Takeout Landing in Little Italy and Bankers Hill
As we saw during the pandemic, takeaway is king right now. Blue Box Butcher Shop is a new concept launching this month in Little Italy, offering takeaway and delivery butchery services, with online ordering of steaks and chops a la carte or pre-packaged, restaurant-caliber dishes for a To cook at home. Another location is due to open in Bankers Hill by the end of the year.
