The Baller Dream Foundation held its first fundraiser in San Diego on July 22nd to honor three young people fighting cancer.
The foundation was founded by the philanthropist Frank DeBlasi, who himself successfully fought testicular cancer. The foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to lift the spirits of people with cancer from infancy to the age of 25. The Foundation does not refer to them as patients; it calls them “ballers”. “Baller is a modern term that suggests that a person is fine, feeling good, and in control,” the foundation said.
On July 22nd, the foundation partnered with Ultimate Skybox at DiamondView Tower in downtown San Diego to raise funds and introduce three “ballers” who were honored: 9-year-old Aritzve Aguirre Texcahua; 18 year old Dustin Joiner; and 22 year old Ali Alipour. During the event, DeBlasi held a “shooting ceremony” at which each award winner was honored. The three shared insights into their courage and positive mood, the foundation announced.
Brothers Signature Catering & Events oversaw the fundraising campaign. Liberty Call Distilling and Snake Oil Cocktail Co. supplied the cocktails. Ashland Hard Seltzer delivered the drinks.
The Baller Dream Foundation works nationwide with children’s hospitals. It provides volunteer-led activities in hospitals to help young people relax and support their families. Through sponsors and donors, the foundation also offers the ballers and their families important life experiences.
