See the Crawleys Head to France in New ‘Downton Abbey’ Sequel Film Trailer – NBC 7 San Diego

Looks like the Crawleys finally learned what a weekend is.
On Monday, November 15th, Focus Features released a new trailer for the follow-up film “Downton Abbey”, aptly titled “Downton Abbey: A New Era”. And it seems that the Crawley family’s newest chapter includes a little foray into the south of France after the Countess Dowager (Maggie Smith) revealed she’d inherited a mansion there.
“Years ago, before you were born, I met a man,” she tells her shackled family. “And now I’ve got a villa in the south of France.”
In response for the whole family, Mary (Michelle Dockery) says a simple “What?”
While Mary may be surprised by this tidbit from the countess widow’s past, we’ll never forget that all those years ago the Crawley matriarch nearly ran away with a Russian prince. But enough of that.
Soon the Crawleys venture into France and appear to be bringing their beloved co-workers with them. Long-time family butler Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) cheekily explains to his wife Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan): “They’d better be warned, the British are coming.”
15 secrets of Downton Abbey revealed
Of course, that’s not the only thing we can expect from “Downton Abbey: A New Era”, because the wedding of Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton) is also being teased. It’s the footage from that wedding that we’re most excited about, as it shows the children of Downton Abbey all grown up.
Both Tom’s daughter with his late wife Sybil (Jessica Brown Findlay) and Mary’s son with her late husband Matthew (Dan Stevens) shot up in a family photo from the wedding. Speaking of the picture, only Edith’s daughter Marigold is photographed, which worries us that something tragic happened to the pregnancy of the Marchioness from the previous “Downton Abbey” film.
Not to mention the trailer doesn’t mention the countess widow’s health, as she was diagnosed with cancer in the previous film. We hope the sequel film answers our burning questions about all of this.
“Downton Abbey: A New Era” contains the original cast and some notable additions – including Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Carter, Brendan Coyle, Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Leech, Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Middleton, Lesley Nicol, Smith, Imelda Staunton, Penelope Wilton, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, Dominic West and Jonathan Zacca.
