Press Release: Circulate San Diego congratulates the City of San Diego on eliminating parking minimum in priority traffic areas
On November 16, the City of San Diego passed a code update that removes the parking minimum for most non-residential uses in Transit Priority Areas (TPAs). The vote was unanimous for the change. The city already abolished the minimum parking spaces for residents in the TPAs in 2019.
Circulate San Diego has been campaigning for a minimum parking space reform since it published its report “Transit Oriented Development” in 2017. Circulate San Diego also actively supports the current reform efforts.
“The park minimum runs counter to our climate goals,” said Jesse O’Sullivan, policy counsel at Circulate San Diego. “If San Diego achieves its ambitious pedestrian, bicycle, and public transit goals, it cannot force businesses to pay attention to cars at the expense of other modes of transport.”
