SAN LUIS OBISPO – After an eight-day hiatus, the Cal Poly men’s basketball program resumes a nine-game road trip for 26 years on Sunday, Dec 5 (1pm). Cal Poly crossed half of the program’s longest road trip in 51 years, grabbing a four-game slide with a 67-63 win over Idaho (Nov. 24), finishing third in the first SoCal Challenge (San Juan Capistrano, California). .). Three of Cal Poly’s four losses this season totaled seven points. At the start of the season with five straight wins, California Baptist (6-1) counted number 8 Texas (November 24th) as the only defeat. Meanwhile, San Diego (4-4) will visit Fresno state on Wednesday, December 1st before receiving Cal Poly.

CAL POLY VS CALIFORNIA BAPTISTERS: The Mustangs and Lancers have never met as Division I opponents. Cal Poly led the California Baptist home in the last meeting between the two sides on November 29, 1999 (102-87) (102-87). Cal Poly has an all-time 5-0 record against California Baptist dating back to when they first met on January 5, 1983.
CAL POLY VS SAN DIEGO: In the first encounter between Cal Poly and San Diego in 23 seasons last year, the toreros scored a 70-61 victory at the Mott Athletics Center on December 16. Cal Poly leads the all-time series (9-8) while San Diego leads the Division I series (4-1), which dates back to the first match between the two programs on January 17, 1958. Sunday’s game marked Cal Poly’s first visit to San Diego since losing 77-73 to the Toreros on February 27, 1996.
THE LONG AND CURVING ROAD: Cal Poly’s current nine-game road trip is the longest on the program in twelve consecutive away games in the 1970/71 season (December 12 to January 22). Cal Poly also played nine Straight Road Games to open the 1968–69 season.
COLVIN CLIMBS SCORING CHART: With an average of 18.7 points in Cal Poly’s last three games, second striker Kyle Colvin is now third in the line-up with 11.8 points per evening. Crowned with a first college double that included career best points (28) and rebounds (10) against Idaho (Nov. 24), Colvin has recorded three consecutive double-digit scoring games. He also enjoyed an 18-point performance against Santa Clara (November 19). After missing last season due to injury, Colvin is Cal Poly’s second leading scorer at 48.9 (22-for-45) percent and the third leading rebounder at 4.5 per game.
KOROMA CONTINUES FOR THE EVALUATION: Junior striker Alimamy Koroma, one of Cal Poly’s top two scorers for the second straight season – powered by three double-digit scoring games, including his career best 23-point against Nicholls State on November 22nd – is the top spot eighth place among the Big West players with 13.5 points per game. Koroma, who added 19 points against Sacramento State (Nov. 15), also leads the Cal Poly, ranking fourth among Big West players with a field goal mark of 54.2 (32-for-59) percent . With 22 double-digit scoring games in his career, Koroma averages 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per 54 college trips.
TAYLOR ON THE BOARDS: One of only two Mustangs to double-double to date after scoring a top 15 cal poly and taking 10 rebounds against Sacramento State (Nov. 15), Junior Guard Trevon Taylor maintains the rebound lead of the program 5.5 boards per night. After nine rebounds against Nicholls State (November 22), Taylor – a transfer of James Madison in the off-season – started five of six matchups with an average of 5.7 points per game.
THE CONCLUSION: Three games in a Cal Poly uniform and three double-digit goals for graduate guard Jacob Davison, who entered the matchup at California Baptist on Thursday as the program’s top scorer with 14.3 points per night. Davison was an off-season transfer after helping Eastern Washington in the 2021 NCAA tournament. He scored 14 points on his Cal Poly debut on Nov. 9, before ending with a season high of 19 points against North Dakota State (Nov. 12). Through 112 college appearances, Davison averages 12.6 points per game.
LOOKING AHEAD: Cal Poly will play the first two of his three regular season games outside of California when he visits Portland State (Saturday, December 11th) and Portland (Monday, December 13th). Both matchups tip over at 7 p.m. for Cal Poly, who is visiting Portland State for the first time in 12 seasons and Portland for the second time in 17 years.
ETC.: Since moving to Division I prior to the 1994/95 season, Cal Poly improved to 44-1 against non-Division I programs with an 86-53 home win over NAIA Westcliff (Nov. 9) … a 75-72 Overtime loss to Nicholls State (Nov. 22) marked Cal Poly’s first ever meeting against the Colonels … sophomore striker Kyle Colvin was named the SoCal Challenge All-Tournament Team (Nov. 24) after averaging 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game when Cal Poly finished third… Cal Poly finished third in the first SoCal Challenge (San Juan Capistrano, California) with a 67-63 win over Idaho (November 24th) .
