Gwyneth Paltrow informs her fans about a health crisis she experienced when she gave birth to her first child.
The 49-year-old “Iron Man” star was a guest on the podcast episode “Armchair Expert” on Monday, October 25, in which she and presenter Dax Shepard discussed how people’s bodies change during the aging process.
This prompted Paltrow, who shares daughter Apple, 17, and son Moses, 15, with ex-husband Chris Martin, to describe the difficulties they had with Apple during labor, which the star greeted by caesarean section in May 2004.
“I had two caesarean sections,” said Paltrow, who married Brad Falchuk in 2018. “My daughter was an emergency. It was crazy – we almost died.
The Goop founder didn’t elaborate on the situation before adding, “Anyway, you’ve got a big scar over your body and you’re like, ‘Oh, wow, that wasn’t there before.’ And it’s not that it’s bad or you want to judge it, but you just think, ‘Oh, my god.’ “

In 2013, Paltrow told the Daily Mail that she miscarried during her third pregnancy. At the time, she said her children would often ask her to have another child, but that she “had a really bad experience when I was pregnant with my third one. It didn’t work out and I almost died. So I’m like ‘Are we good here or should we go back and try again?’ ”
Paltrow celebrated Apple’s 17th birthday in May 2021 with heartwarming news related to the day the teen was born. “You are so inspiring and just so cool,” wrote the “Glee” alum in part. “I remember so perfectly the morning you were born, I just can’t believe it was 17 years ago.”
Gwyneth Paltrow shares an update on her family, tests Jimmy Fallon’s self-care products, and reveals the name of Goop’s newest candle.
