A high-speed driver sped through the lanes of South Route 52 during a Wednesday morning chase, spinning through surface roads that resulted in a minor accident at a gas station in El Cajon.

The persecution began sometime before 7:30 am for reasons that are still unknown. When the driver of the SUV was riding the SR-52, it meandered through traffic at high speed before pulling out onto the streets. While driving through El Cajon, the SUV drove on quickly and had some close calls with other motorists.

The driver drove through the lanes of South Route 52 in East County before exiting the freeway. The driver drove on at high speed on paved roads.

While police continued to chase the driver, the SUV suddenly turned into an ARCO gas station on North Mollison Avenue. There the SUV came to a stop after bumping into a parked car and smoke seemed to be rising from the hood of the chase vehicle.

Law enforcement officers then jumped from their own vehicles with guns drawn on the SUV and ordered the driver to surrender with arms raised. The driver, who had not yet been identified, was then handcuffed and arrested.

Details of what led to the chase were not immediately clear.
