Actor and comedian Kevin Hart surprised customers of a bank in southeast DC with a financial advisory on Wednesday.
Hart stopped at the new Chase Community Branch at Skyland Town Center on Good Hope Road SE to encourage colored communities.
“I’m someone who wants to see these things change,” he said. “I’m someone who would love to see my community grow.”
Hart, a spokesman for Chase Bank, has toured the country to meet with small business owners.
“The tour is about getting back into the community and having the discussions that we don’t have for people and trying to fill the financial literacy gap,” he said.
He talked about mistakes he made like spending money instead of saving it and missing the chance to invest in Uber when it started.
“I didn’t know I could invest in public companies,” Hart said. “I didn’t have the knowledge because it was never presented to me.”
Tom Gay, who starts a company called Duke and Duchess that offers art classes to young people, said meeting Hart had them motivated.
“It was just perfect today, and that was what drove me to just have to do it,” she said. “I have to put myself out there.”
