SAN DIEGO, CA – From sprawling sandy beaches to lush national parks, the Golden State has a lot to offer. California is also peppered with cities full of art and culture.
Twenty-five of California’s cities were listed as America’s Funniest Cities of 2021 in a report published Wednesday by financial advisory website Wallethub.
San Diego ranked # 16 out of 182 US cities analyzed by Wallethub.
Unsurprisingly, Las Vegas – with its world-class nightlife and huge hiking destination – is the # 1 slot. The city is also a great destination for residents of neighboring California.
The highest ranked city in California was San Francisco.
Wallethub compared 182 cities across the country, including 150 of the most populous communities, using three metrics: entertainment and recreation, nightlife and parties and cost.
Cities were also rated on the number of festivals held in the city, restaurants per capita, number of parking lots, most accessible bars, dance clubs per capita, lowest average beer prices, and lowest film costs.
The highest-ranking California city on the list (No. 6), San Francisco occupied the No. 1 slot for most dance clubs per capita. The city also scored with its abundance of festivals and some of the most restaurants per capita.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles also ranks high on the list of cities with the most dance clubs per capita.
In Orange County, Huntington Beach is one of the top cities with the most fitness centers per capita.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American spends more than $ 2,900 a year on entertainment.
Wallethub researchers considered the possibility of “having fun on a budget” when evaluating California cities and asking experts to weigh the costs.
Gary L. Rose, a professor at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, gave some advice to consider the cost of having fun.
“Reserve your budget for cultural and historical delights such as museums, tours of historic sites and of course some expenses in a listed restaurant,” said Rose. “Never exhaust your budget, however. Return home with a surplus on vacation break the bank. “
