Taylor Swift Sends Flowers, Note to Don McLean After Breaking His Record – NBC 7 San Diego

Taylor Swift is no stranger to thanking the music legends who stood before her. Earlier this week, the 31-year-old singer gave props to another artist – despite breaking a record he’d held for decades.

Don McLean, the singer of the nearly nine-minute long hit “American Pie”, has held the record for the longest song since 1972, which made it to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Swift got it, however, with her ten-minute version of “All Too Well,” which was released in November and hit # 1 later that month.

Swift sent McLean a bouquet of flowers and a sweet note, thanking him for his music.

The 76-year-old artist proudly shared Swift’s gracious gift on social media. He posted a smiling photo on Instagram next to the stunning bouquet of white flowers.

“What a great deed!” McLean gave the post a title. “Thanks Taylor Swift for the flowers and the note.”

McLean also shared a picture of the note Swift had sent him.

“I will never forget that I stand on the shoulders of giants,” read the handwritten card. “Your music was so important to me. Greetings from one writer on LONG SONGS to another.”

McLean first posted an official statement on its website on November 23rd to address the news that his record had been broken.

“There’s something to be said for a great song with staying power,” McLean said in the statement. “American Pie stayed at the top for 50 years and now Taylor Swift has discontinued such a historic work of art. Let’s face it, nobody wants to lose that # 1 spot, but if I had to lose it to someone, I’m really glad it was another great singer / songwriter like Taylor. “

The expanded version of “All Too Well” is Swift’s eighth song to top the Hot 100 charts.

There are two versions of the song on “Red (Taylor’s Version),” one of which includes 5:29 am and the extended version at 10:13 am. Both songs are combined into one listing in the charts, but the original version from 2012 is tracked separately.

After being brought up in an interview years ago, fans are eagerly awaiting the 10-minute version of Swift’s critically acclaimed track. During her appearance on “The Tonight Show” the night before her album was released, Swift revealed to host Jimmy Fallon that she wrote the longer version of “All Too Well” during a rehearsal when she was 21 while she was out “Really upset and sad” felt. “

Now that it’s finally out on the world, the expanded version of the track has taken on a new life. The vault track was streamed over 100 million times on Spotify. Swift also released a short film starring Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink for the song the night the album was released.

The next day she played the entire extended version as a musical guest on “Saturday Night Live”, which has garnered over 3 million views since it was broadcast on YouTube.
