The largest easily accessible cave is Sunny Jim’s Sea Cave, which costs admission, but a small one to the left of the beach is accessible on foot and free of charge. Additionally, if you are an avid kayaker or snorkeler, you can visit some of the other sea caves further offshore. The rocks near the bay are also a prime spot for up-close seal viewing. Or just kite-watching – Mission Bay Park is a popular kite-flying spot, and you will often see all kinds of colorful and creative kites soaring through the sky. Hang gliding isn’t all the park has to offer either. It is also home to several nature trails. Although they are not very long, they are perfect for a day hike, a run, or just a stroll in nature. The park is also a great place for picnics, and kids will love to explore the area.
4. Stay warm with a campfire on the beach
When it’s getting colder outside – well, colder for San Diego anyway – a campfire can be the perfect evening activity! This is a great way to relax, stay warm, and have a good time with friends and family. Better still, there are several beaches in San Diego that allow campfires – the perfect combination of winter fun and ocean views! Here are a few notable beaches that allow campfires. Fiesta Island offers some lovely views of the nearby city lights and is pet friendly too. Coronado Beach is near attractions like the Hotel Del’s beachfront ice rink and features fire pits.
5. Consider a day trip to Anza Borrego State Park.
If you’re looking for something out of town, consider a day trip to Anza Borrego State Park. This beautiful park has several features that are worth the trip. First, keep an eye out for the various metal sculptures that dot the landscape nearby – this is also an excellent roadside attraction as you drive around the area. Then go deeper into the park to explore some hiking trails. A particularly great trail is the Borrego Palm Canyon Trail with a palm oasis.
