San Diegans will have access to certain personal services at a greater number of library locations starting Tuesday.
The number of locations open for browsing, computer use, and library card renewals will increase from 12 to 26, city officials said Monday, as San Diego continues to reopen services that have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The San Diego Public Library is excited to welcome visitors back to our facilities,” said Library Director Misty Jones in a press release. “Although our staff has come into contact with customers in new ways during the COVID-19 pandemic, nothing can replace the personal interactions that make a visit to the library so special.”
In addition to the libraries that are being opened for personal browsing, four more offer contactless pick-up of materials that have been returned online. According to the press release, library users can return books in mailboxes at all 36 library locations at any time.
Some sites will also start offering personal programs and virtual programs will continue through the library’s Facebook page.
The following branches will reopen on Tuesday:
- Allied Gardens / Benjamin
- Balboa
- Carmel Mountain Ranch
- City heights / Weingart
- Beautiful view
- North park
- Otay Mesa-Nestor
- Pacific Beach / Taylor
- Paradise hill
- Rancho Peñasquitos
- Saint Charles
- Scripps Miramar Ranch
- Holy Land
- University community
The library is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
