Falcons Return Home to Host San Diego State, UNLV

The Air Force volleyball team opens its final home stand of the year with two conference competitions. The Falcons will receive San Diego State on Veterans’ Day (November 11th) before welcoming UNLV to Cadet East Gym on Saturday, November 13th.

RECOGNIZE THE OPPONENTS
San Diego State is currently 7-19 overall and holds a 4-10 mark in Mountain West Action. The Aztecs shared two five-set street games last week, defeated UNLV on Monday and fell to Fresno state on Saturday. San Diego State ranks second in kills (13.04) and assists (11.98) in MW matches, while Victoria O’Sullivan is in the top 3 for kills (3.87) and points (4.32) Conference ranks. UNLV, who will be traveling to New Mexico before arriving at the academy, starts the week with a 17-8 record (8-6 in conference play). The rebels also split last week, falling home in five parts of San Diego state and defeating Fresno state in four parts. UNLV leads the league in the hittings in conference competitions with an average of 0.284, while Mariena Hayden, the player of the year 2020, with kills (4.20), aces (0.69) and points (5.27) the Conference Leader is.

Air Force is 8-39 against San Diego State and 5-43 against UNLV in the all-time series, but hasn’t met either team at the Academy since 2019. The Falcons have won five of their last six home games against the Aztecs, while all but one of their victories over the Rebels were won at Cadet East Gym.
AIR FORCE IN THE CONFERENCE BOOTHS
Joi Harvey is in the top 10 of the conference in all matches in both hitting (third, .388) and blocking (seventh, 1.07), while he holds number 5 in hitting (.391) in conference competitions. The runner-up is one of two Falcons that rank in the top 10 in blocks (all games), while Mac Russ is ninth with an average of 0.99 per set.
WELCOME BACK
Fans are invited to Air Force volleyball games again this fall, however Current Department of Defense and Air Force Academy rules require that all persons in the academy’s facilities wear a mask. All persons who are not fully vaccinated must wear masks outdoors on military facilities.
WHAT’S ON DECK
The Air Force concludes the 2021 campaign with two conference competitions next week. The Falcons will host New Mexico for Senior Night on Tuesday, November 16, before heading to Fresno state for the regular season finale on Saturday, November 18.
