John Krasinski Put His Foot Down Over This ‘Office’ Storyline – NBC 7 San Diego

Fans of “The Office” know that the love story between Jim and Pam made us all believe in the concept of happy life.
Now imagine if Jim screwed everything up – by cheating on Pam. That was an act suggested by the show’s creator, Greg Daniels, but actor John Krasinski, who played Jim, refused to film the scene.
According to Brian Baumgartner’s new book, Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office, Daniels proposed an idea to let Jim Pam, played by Jenna Fischer, be betrayed while Pam was on maternity leave.
The story Daniels wanted to make, which would have happened in season eight “After Hours,” had Jim make out with Cathy (Lindsey Broad), Pam’s temporary deputy at Dunder Mifflin, while on a work trip to Florida.
Office aliens John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer had a public rivalry for their Stanley Cup teams, and John took the shadows to another level when he invited Jenna’s ex-screen ex, David Denman, to Game 7.
Daniels argued that the show’s writers “need to calm down a little bit of excitement at this point and try to regain the intensity,” he recalls in the book.
But Krasinski heard of the plot and said no way.
“That’s the only time I remember setting foot on my feet,” says Krasinski in the book. “Because (Greg) said, ‘You’re actually going to make out with her in this scene.’ I remember saying things I never thought I would say like, ‘I won’t turn it around.’ “
Krasinski knew he wasn’t alone and that fans of the beloved show didn’t want to see Jim cheating on Pam either.
In the book, Krasinski recalls telling Daniels, “’My feeling is that there is a threshold through which you can push our audience. You are so committed. We showed them so much respect.
“But there’s a moment when you take them too far they never come back. And I think if you cheat on Jim they’ll never come back.”
