SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday can be a crazy house.
“I expect it will be very busy,” said Molly Humphries, who traveled to Tennessee on Wednesday.
“I don’t know why we’re doing this, to be honest. It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever come across,” said Adam Mills, who traveled to Nashville with his wife and young children.
Despite the anticipation, it’s still a rush of people arriving and departing from San Diego International Airport.
Some are hoping for not too much turbulence on the ground after the pandemic has delayed travel.
“Hopefully not too tense. I hope everyone is relaxed,” said Mills.
“But assuming that not everyone has traveled yet, I would think that people are getting a little fluff.”
San Diego International Airport told ABC 10News that approximately 60,000 passengers pass through Lindbergh Field every day during the Thanksgiving travel season.
As people get used to checking their bags and getting their tickets again, the airport is reminding people to mask themselves and plan ahead.
“Know where you are going, what the destination requires, what your airline requires, whether you are getting tests or a vaccination certificate. These are all things to be aware of, ”said Sophia LoPiccilo of San Diego International Airport.
Getting to the airport early is key, says AAA and San Diego International.
Plus, being patient can help keep a hectic day going smoothly.
Getting to loved ones on this year’s Thanksgiving holiday means a lot more of not being able to do so after a year.
“So we’re going to visit my family in Tennessee and my grandparents will be there,” said Humphries.
“And we haven’t seen her since last year. So it will be really great to be all together again. “
“This year will be a truly renewed opportunity to get together with people who love them and help people feel more together and less alone than last year,” said Elisabeth Cordell, who traveled to the Bay Area.
The airport expects Wednesday and either Sunday or Monday to be the busier days of travel for thanksgiving for people coming and leaving San Diego.
AAA recommends passengers leave their domestic flights two hours in advance and three hours for international flights.
