San Diego Restaurant Week 2021 is back for round two, hoping to give local restaurants another boost as the pandemic continues to challenge the industry.
The 18th annual edition of the local dining event – presented by the California Restaurant Association – runs from September 26th to October 3rd.
Slightly more than 90 restaurants will be represented in this round and will have a familiar setup: each participating SDRW restaurant will offer lunch and dinner at a fixed price. As always, it’s a way for locals to try the new restaurant they’ve heard of without spending too much – and a way for restaurants to attract new customers.
According to the SDRW organizers, the fixed-price lunch menu consists of two courses and ranges from $ 10, $ 15, $ 20, or $ 25 per person. The dinner menu consists of three courses and costs either $ 20, $ 30, $ 40, $ 50, or $ 60 per person.
Dozens of restaurants will take part in the Fall 2021 edition of Restaurant Week. Here’s what you need to know.
Participating restaurants span all parts of San Diego County, from South Bay and downtown San Diego to La Jolla, Carlsbad, Oceanside, and many communities in between. Here is the full list of SDRW 2021 restaurants.
Guests do not need special tickets to participate in the SDRW, but reservations are recommended. Once you have reached the location of your choice, order from the Restaurant Week menu and that’s it. Dead easy.
This fall edition of SDRW marks the second round of the event in 2021. As with most events in San Diego County, the pandemic has caused some changes to their plans.
The first round traditionally takes place in January, but this year SDRW has been postponed to April 2021 as pandemic-era restaurant restrictions were eased across San Diego County. At the time, our region was still subject to the state’s color-coded COVID-19 tier system so it was not a good time for the local event to shine.
During that first SDRW in 2021, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria noted the profound impact of the coronavirus pandemic on local restaurants and small businesses. Some local business owners also pondered the devastating impact the pandemic had on their restaurants.
San Diego Restaurant Week returns a little later than normal in 2021.
At that time last year, in September 2020, SDRW had to shift gears to adapt to the COVID-19 restrictions of the time. Instead of holding Restaurant Week in the traditional format, an event called “Dine Diego” temporarily took over the fall edition of the Gourmet Affair. This round focused on the presentation of local restaurants that offer al fresco dining and take away as this was allowed for restaurants at the time.
This week begins each year an extremely important event for the San Diego restaurant industry that could be more valuable than ever to local restaurants. NBC 7 photojournalist Calvin Pierce spoke to Chef Ken Irvine about how much the support means.
