Where to see the best Christmas lights in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – It’s that time of year again when many San Diegan residents light up their homes with spectacular Christmas light shows. Some houses will go all out and cover every inch of their property while others create elaborate displays.
It’s a local tradition that continues to bring joy to locals across the country, regardless of subject or skill level.
Here are some of the best light shows in all of San Diego County this year:
North circle
- Karlovy Vary: The “Karlovy Vary Christmas House” lights up with flamingos and penguins, animated shop window decorations, dancing with Santa Claus and the land of Misfit Toys in 7607 Romeria Street from December 5 to 31, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. More information .
- Del Mar Fairgrounds: With Holidays in Your Car from December 4, 2021 to January 2, 2022, the holidays at the Del Mar Fairgrounds will be ushered in with a great light and sound spectacle this season. More than a million LED lights, holograms and projection mappings animated to holiday music will take over the exhibition grounds so that visitors can enjoy their own little sleigh ride, with some displays being over 12 meters high. - Rancho Bernardo: Houses along the cul-de-sac of Tristania Pl. Are clad with lights from top to bottom and spell out “Hope”, “Joy” and “Noel” in all houses and much more.
- Carmel Mountain: The houses in the Fairway Village area of Carmel Mountain are decked out in lights! Check out the lights from December 1st to January 1st from dusk to 10:30 PM. Vehicles are allowed to drive around, and visitors are asked not to walk around the neighborhood. More info.
- Poway: “Candy Cane Lane” includes Hickory Ct., Hickory St., Butterwood Ct. and Rockrose Ct. in Poway, starting the weekend after Thanksgiving through December 25th. More info.
- Scripps Ranch: Merry-tage Court is located at Stonebridge Pkwy and Merritage Ct. in December covered with bright holiday themes from dusk to around 10 p.m.
- Rancho Penasquitos: Christmas Card Lane is located on Oviedo St. on Black Mountain Road. The houses create plywood “cards” with Christmas themes or cartoons and light shows from dusk until around 10pm throughout December.
East district
- Lakeside: Houses on Paseo Palmas Dr. can be seen in lights this season as the lights line up every house in “Tinsel Town”. Visitors can see the displays from approximately 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. throughout December. More info.
- Santee: “Starlight Circle” or “Sunburst Santee” includes Tomel Ct. on Magnolia Ave. Residents have their own schedule for how long the lights stay on, but visitors can usually catch them between 5:30 PM and 10:00 PM from December 1st through December 31st. Further information.
- El Cajon: Homes on Pepper Dr. is wrapped in festive Christmas lights. The road on the hill becomes a beacon in the neighborhood every Christmas time. More info.
- Lemon Grove: Lemon Grove’s “Santa Claus Lane” is located on Sheri Lane.
Downtown san diego
- Tierrasanta: Visit 5306 Belardo Dr. for a decked light show and start every night on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. More info.
- Clairemont: Clairemont’s “Clairemont Christmas Park” on Lana Dr. & Jamar Dr. from December 2nd to 25th.
- SeaWorld San Diego: At the SeaWorld San Diego Christmas Celebration, visitors can watch the dazzling Christmas car show and meet friends of Santa Claus, Rudolph and Sesame Street. There will also be snow, fireworks and a lot more. More info.
- Bankers Hill: The Forward House at Banker’s Hill is located on Ivy St. and 1st Avenues and has been a neighborhood vacation tradition for years. The house is usually illuminated from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. More info.
South bay
- Chula Vista: “Christmas Circle” is located on Whitney St. and Mankato St. in Chula Vista. The houses along the streets will be lit every evening from dusk to around 10 p.m. from December 12th to 26th. More info.
- Chula Vista: Homes on Porch Swing Street decorate their lots with lights and line them across the street throughout December.
