An Instagram- and TikTok-worthy new spot in Kearny Mesa offers visitors several photo opportunities with its trendy and hip topics.
Selfie Social is one of the newest bars / restaurants in San Diego, offering its customers the opportunity to snap fun photos with loved ones in six themed rooms. Nestled in an unsuspecting square, surrounded by the enticing restaurants and other facilities of the Convoy District, Selfie Social aims to greet and welcome everyone who comes through its doors.
Designed, curated, and owned by Vietca Do, Alvin Barnuevo and Allen C., the team came up with the idea of a family-friendly restaurant that hosts parties, has private event facilities, serves plant-based meals and has fun photo opportunities that changes every six months.
Each selfie room illuminates its subjects with a bright light and offers interactive topics for everyone. Themes range from an eclectic disco-themed room with gold walls to a posh, pink bedroom with fluffy decor reminiscent of a pop music video.
Guests entering can look to their left and are greeted by a mural labeled “San Diego” depicting landmarks of America’s most beautiful city. On your right is a mural with angel wings as a backdrop for the customers’ first photo.

Selfie Social is the creation of three San Diego born entrepreneurs. As part of the BIPOC community, the crew has made it a priority to create a space where visitors feel really welcome and hugged.
“Representation is something we want to portray,” said Do. “We’ll highlight cultures and backgrounds like the LGBTQ + community, the Asian community, and more. We will make sure that when people come here they see a piece of themselves and still have the feeling that a piece of themselves is still there. “
To meet their goal of achieving and welcoming diversity, the owners created a vegan menu called Say Cheese, which focuses on grilled plant-based cheese for people with different dietary needs to enjoy convenient meals. In addition to serving alcohol and local beers, the eatery offers a variety of non-alcoholic beverages such as lemonades and caprisuns for children and adults.

“I think the main goal is to have a place where everyone feels worthy, a place to express themselves, where everything looks great – the photos, the food, and most importantly, you!” Said. “Nobody goes in a bad mood here.”
You look great, your photos are great, the food looks great and when you come out you feel great. I think that’s part of community building. You come to a place where it’s okay to be yourself. “
Selfie Social went from an idea to a stationary hotspot in just four months. The team brainstormed in June 2021 and after the crew agreed to create the attraction, the crew quickly got to work.
The grandiose trio signed a lease in July, started building the concept in August and finished the rooms in September. They greeted close friends and family for a gentle opening on October 15, and the next day, Selfie Social was open to the public.
It is an honor for the team to be part of San Diego’s historic Convoy District, Do.

“For us as consumers, then and now as producers, to be part of this community, it’s really rewarding where we’ve managed to create a space where people feel welcome,” she said.
Selfie Social is now open to everyone and ready to hug its community and visitors. Do, she said, Barnuevo and Allen C. hope that their guests will enjoy their new concept and know that they will be accepted and just be who they are.
“Aside from the pictures and the smiles, we want them to take away the feeling of belonging and the feeling of being welcomed and acknowledged for who they are,” said Do.
Selfie Social is open daily from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and is located at 4411 Mercury St. Suite 102 in San Diego. For further information, click here.
