Market opening on 8th Preps in Downtown National City
Market on 8th – a 9,000 square meter public market project that will premiere this fall in San Diego’s South Bay – is nearing completion as almost all of the space has already been taken. A Japanese concept of Chef Phillip Esteban (He was on our Scene in San Diego podcast last year, check out his episode here and below). Other food stalls offer everything from pizza and Mexican food to Indonesian and Thai cuisine. The marketplace will have communal seating both indoors and outdoors – and there will also be craft beer.

Carousel bar starts spinning in Little Italy
Wolfie’s Carousel Bar landed on Kettner Boulevard with a whimsical design that is anchored by a carousel-shaped rotating cocktail bar that makes a full turn every 14 minutes. The menu features New Orleans-inspired cocktails as well as classic French bistro dishes.
Tahini expands and adds adjoining café in Kearny Mesa. added
A popular Middle Eastern street food lunch spot, Tahini is moving to a larger space this fall, transforming its original location into a new cafe. It’s called Finjan and serves Turkish coffee along with standard espresso drinks and homemade Arabic desserts.
Hamburger Hütte rolls into Encinitas
The local group behind Valentina and Moto Deli has opened a roadside burger stand in San Diego’s North County. With plenty of outdoor seating along 101, Hamburger Hut’s uncluttered menu focuses on burgers with Wagyu beef and fries, with other options like fish tacos and vegan salads along the way.
