Readers of all ages can now access books in Encinitas 24/7.

A new self-service kiosk makes it easier for residents to use the services of the San Diego County Library. The kiosk looks and works like a vending machine, but instead of chips and candy, books, DVDs, and audiobooks can nourish your mind.

The eight-foot-tall machine offers the full lending functionality you’d find in one of the district libraries. Visitors can use it to borrow and return media and even search the entire library catalog.

Customers will find the new kiosk outside the San Diego Credit Union branch at 501 N. El Camino Real.

The opening ceremony for the kiosk also served as the reopening of the other four existing kiosks at Kearny Mesa, Bonsall, Boulevard and Chula Vista.

The kiosks were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The county now offers five kiosks across the region that readers can access anytime during the week.
