CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Breweries feel distress at the port as raw materials struggle to keep beers on shelves for around 150 San Diego County’s breweries.
“Aluminum, your grain, your hops,” said the master brewer at Chula Vista Brewing Co., Ignacio Cervantes. “Every brewery in town is competing for many of the same materials.”

During the pandemic, many breweries bought canning machines when indoor drinking was not allowed. That kept Chula Vista Brewing afloat, according to Cervantes, who said he didn’t know what would have happened if they hadn’t bought it.
But now that the backlog of shipping containers broke off the coast of Long Beach, access to the aluminum cans has become a serious problem.
